The current version of Drive Bender does not directly support VSS requests against a Drive Bender drive letter mount point. This means any application requesting a snapshot of the drive, will receive an error message and the application may fail.
Depending on the application requiring VSS support, there are a number of workarounds to this limitation.
Backup utilities
If the application is a backup utility, you should NOT specify the Drive Bender pooled drive as the backup target. Instead you should specify the physical drives that make up the pool. If you need to backup only specific folder within the pooled drive, again you need to specify the folders on the physical drives that make up the pool.
Although we are working on native VSS support, we are recommending that users perform backup operations against the physical drives regardless, as there are performance benefits in doing this.
Other VSS features
If you wish to use VSS for the purposes of file versioning, you need to do this against each of the physical drives in the pool. To do this, open the Drive Bender options and enable "Map pooled drives" - we recommend disabling this option when you do not require this feature.
Once enabled, you are able to access the drives directly from "C:\Program Files\Division-M\Drive Bender\System\Mounts". Here you will find listed each drive that is part of the pool. You can access the properties of each of these drives by right-clicking the drive, then selecting properties. When the dialog opens, you can access the drive's properties using the properties button.
Accessing each drive, you will find one or more folders, these are the mount point folders.
The following example shows the root of a pooled drive with three mount points (the highlighted folders)
From here you can access all the mount point files on each of the physical pooled drives.
